The impact of rural contexts on high school students’ attitudes towards ESL: a qualitative study
Main Article Content
Resumen
This study examines the attitudes of high school students towards English as a second language (ESL) class in rural areas, focusing on understanding the influence of contextual factors. A qualitative method was used for this research and data was collected through a survey in a rural high school. The findings reveal a complex relationship of socio-cultural, educational, and community factors that shape students’ attitudes towards ESL. Due to the challenges faced, such as limited resources and exposure to English outside the classroom, many students demonstrate negative attitudes towards ESL. The study highlights the importance of considering context in understanding ESL attitudes and provides insights for educators to enhance ESL learning experiences in rural high schools.
